In a world where adventure is often measured in numbers, records, and performance, Almost Alone in the Alps takes the opposite approach. Over the course of thirteen days, Fabien Maierhofer and his team embark on an extraordinary ski traverse linking the glaciers of the Vanoise to the Mediterranean Sea, guided by an idea as absurd as it is poetic: symbolically accompanying glacier water on its journey back to the ocean.

But very quickly, the mountain imposes its own rules. Fatigue settles in, certainties begin to fade, and the original objective gradually loses its meaning. Behind the announced sporting challenge, something deeper begins to emerge: a reflection on our constant need for conquest, on our often contradictory relationship with the natural world, and on this strange human desire to assign meaning to everything we do.

Blending humor, the deconstruction of traditional adventure storytelling, and an intimate personal perspective, the film slowly shifts toward something more introspective. What first appeared to be a simple crossing of the Alps gradually reveals itself as an invisible conversation — an attempt to understand what we are truly searching for when we choose to leave everything behind and head into the unknown.
